Volunteer

We’re not in a position to hire people here at mkPLANET quite yet, but we do need volunteers because we have a lot of projects and ideas that could use some of your energy, inspiration, and creativity!!

Since the traffic has been increasing here quite a bit we’ve realized a couple things, namely that Joel and Dana are not quite able to keep up with the work/activity without help (we’re only human, after all!), and that more momentum means even more potential for our community!

Volunteering is a great way to put your skills, interests, and experiences to work for the benefit of MKs, young and old. If you’re a younger member this is also a great way to build your resume – both Joel and Dana will be happy to be a reference for all of our volunteers for future volunteer/job positions.

Available Volunteer Positions:

  • Blog Editor: Locates articles on the internet related to MK/TCK life and posts them on mkPLANET’s blog; also communicates with our members regarding opportunities for them to submit their own stories and articles.
  • Chefs: Yes, that’s right, we’re looking for members who are serious about baking, cooking, and especially trying out new recipes. We need you to make the recipes in our Community Cookbook, and to send us a personal review along with a photograph for each recipe you try. We’d like at least one new review/photo per month.
  • Events Manager: Communicates and builds ongoing relationships with coordinators of MK and TCK events around the world, routinely searches the internet for MK and TCK events (including those in languages other than English, e.g. Korean), and keeps the mkPLANET Events Calendar up to date.
  • Forum Moderators: Moderators maintain smooth operations in the forums, enforce the guidelines where necessary, help new members feel welcome, and answer members’ forum-related questions.
  • Graphic Designer: Designs brochures, merchandise (clothing, office supplies such as magnets and mouse pads, and other materials), and works with Administrators on website design.
  • Librarian: Remains informed about new books related to MK/TCK life and adds them to the library; the librarian will also enter descriptions and topical tags for each book, write regular summaries (two books per month) for the mkPLANET Blog and Newsletters, and locate reviews for the books in our library by searching the internet and by being in contact with our members who have read these books.
  • Merchandise Coordinator: Organizes members’ design submissions for mkPLANET merchandise (e.g. t-shirts, mugs, mouse pads, etc.), and works with administrators to set up an online store.
  • Poll Manager: Posts a new question in our public poll each month.
  • Special Events Coordinator: Works with members to organize and promote special community events, such as contests, scavenger hunts, member birthday parties in our chat room, etc.
  • Tech Support: Helps members with tech-related questions about the forums and the rest of the website.
  • Webmaster: Works together with the Administrators on website development and management, such as update/upgrade issues.
  • WebLinks Manager: Searches the internet for new websites to add to our WebLinks section, regularly checks the WebLinks for broken links, and updates links or website descriptions as needed.

What’s involved…

  • a minimum three (3) month commitment gives you time to test-run the position
  • if you don’t like it, you can quit or try another volunteer position
  • if you do like it, you can stay on with us for a six (6) month commitment or a one (1) year commitment, and we will be happy to officially welcome you on board!
